Traditional Welsh food relies heavily on natural produce and includes fresh seafood, beef and lamb as well as a wonderful selection of cheeses. Plain, wholesome food which appeals to all palates, you certainly won’t go hungry during your stay.
Some local specialties Laver Bread which is edible seaweed most commonly found on the south coast but is still eaten throughout Wales, Glamorgan sausages which are vegetarian sausages made up of a combination of local cheeses and spices, and Bara Brith which literally translates as ‘speckled’ and is a dried fruit bread usually served with butter.
Throughout the year many food festivals take place. These include the Welsh Cider Festival held in Abergavenny (Monmouthshire), usually at the end of May which showcases and sells various types of Welsh cider and the Cardiff International Food & Drink Festival which takes place annually in the middle of July and showcases the best of Welsh produce.
